Passionate About Prevention
Our approach to caring for your pets has always been to provide all the care your pet needs, whilst giving you peace of mind. We are keen to reduce the chance of illness in our patients and we work alongside our dedicated pet owners to prevent potentially life threatening diseases.
Our Pet Health Club includes core vaccinations, parasite control, twice yearly vet health checks, all nurse clinics, as well as discounts on other procedures.
Evidence-Based Veterinary Care
Alongside delivering powerful preventative care to our patients, we provide up to date veterinary surgery and medicine if your pet does unfortunately become ill.
Our full surgical facilities include laparoscopic (keyhole) and orthopaedic surgery.
The medical care your pet receives is evidence based and highly up to date, with all our vets regularly and diligently taking extra training courses. This ensures the best possible understanding and treatment of any illness your pet might have. We also have excellent referral centres nearby if highly advanced treatments are required.
Our History
Iain C.R. Butt first established the veterinary practice in Loanhead in 1982 working for 26 years until directors Chris and Rory joined in 2008. Iain briefly had a practice in Roslin before setting up at the current location at 44 Fountain Place. In 2008 the current Gorebridge practice was added, expanding the care provided to animals in the Midlothian area. We provided care for farm animals, horses and pets until 2014 when we recognised the increased desire for specialisation and moved towards small animal pets only.
Laparoscopic (keyhole) spays have been offered since 2009, with now over 2000 having been performed, providing a minimally invasive method of spaying dogs and cats.
Since then our range of services has continued to expand to give the best possible care for all pets. We now offer an exotics referral service with Martyn, and have a specialist vet Iva for dealing with complex medical and dermatological (skin) issues. Our vet Tyler has a certificate in Chronic Pain, so provides services such as acupuncture and laser therapy for animals in need.
In February 2016 a third practice in Balerno opened, expanding our patient care further into the Lothians. Here we offer a full range of consultations and surgeries with a vet and nurse on site.
In January 2020 we merged with Pentland Veterinary Clinic in Currie to add another fantastic team for our clients to work with, as well as making services such as x-rays and blood tests closer for our existing Balerno clients.
